This morning we have been given an opportunity to attend a talk/orientation on the new Product version of Acronis, Acronis is a Data backup software and disaster recovery solutions that has been around way back 2002. It started as a home based solution Backup & recovery tool and has captured consumers because of its friendly user interface.

So to get us started we need to know why backing up files is important, i’ll enumerate some basic examples:

1. First your files are important to you/companies.

2. Data Recovery are expensive

3. Stolen/Lost or Damaged drives are expensive

Now given this three main reasons, for me is enough to think about backing up your data. Imagine those files containing important information that you need for your company/business to function. Thinking ahead of the possible scenario might be beneficial to you, that is where Acronis comes into play.

Acronis offers solution for this kind of situation, focused on the Windows and Linux Operation systems, targeting this two OS holders that has a lot of market share and given that its consumers are many. Some of the features are cataloging and searching of backed up files, Monitoring, reporting of backed up files, Deduplication wherein one original file will be backed up and depending on the quantity that needs to be backed up will be hashed for future recovery therefore freeing/saving more space used during the backup.

Centralized Management

Superior Virtualization Support

Flexible Any-to-Any Migration

Applications Support

Flexibility to Grow

One of the main feature of Acronis is their snapshot technology, where the system will take a picture of your whole system for that current time and will give you an option to restore that state in the future. They Also support virtual machine backups, which i think is a plus, considering that many uses it. Backing up files is mainly divided into two parts Hot & Cold Backup. Hot is online backing up and cold is offline, the other category is the warm Backup wherein the OS is running, one example of this backup is during morning backups where users are not usually working. Replication is also highlighted in the talk, five destinations of backup will be readily available depending on the settings. Acronis is known to have a Set & Forget features for its ease of use which really appeal to its users, that Set & Forget features is one of the foundations that makes Acronis stay in the business for almost ten years. That reason alone is a basis for taking it seriously and also considering it to be part of your business.
